MOLLENTZE / Brand studio / Cape Town

We build brands. Then we run them.

Brand strategy, identity and the everyday running of hospitality, lifestyle and wellness businesses.

Quinton & Jacques

The work

Brands we built

Hospitality, food and drink, interiors and considered product. A few of the businesses we've built brands with, and the people behind them.

The Bot River Collection / Overberg

The hotel and wine group that outgrew its own brand

Strategy, identity, website and launch, and every month we've run it since.

Lenneira / Cape Town

A Cape Town watch brand, built before launch day

Strategy first, then the identity that followed from it.

Fishmonger / Johannesburg to Newlands

Same brand. New city

A Johannesburg favourite, opened on a Cape Town street. Everything people loved, fitted to a different city and a different crowd.

What we do

Leave. Listen. Build. Stay.

Four moves, always in this order. The last one is the one most studios leave out.

  1. 01

    Leave

We get out of the office and into your place: the street, the dining room, the farm. Sometimes further, somewhere with no signal, to think properly.

  2. 02

    Listen

Discovery with you, your team and your guests. What the business actually is, and what's been outgrown.

  3. 03

    Build

Strategy, then identity, then everything it runs on: website, content, signage, launch. Brand Development, Website Design.

  4. 04

    Stay

We keep running it, month after month, so the brand stays itself. Stewardship.

The argument

Most brand projects end at handover

A studio delivers the guideline document, invoices the final payment, and moves on. Six months later the brand has drifted, because nobody who understood the thinking behind it is still in the room.

We built MOLLENTZE the other way around. We do the strategy and the identity, then we stay on and run the work that keeps the brand consistent as the business grows, changes direction, or turns into something bigger than it started as.

  1. Build
  2. Week 1Discovery starts. We learn what the business actually is before deciding what it should look like.
  3. Week 2Interviews and site visits. We sit with your team and your guests, and go through everything already in the world: menus, signage, the website, the Instagram grid.
  4. Week 3The diagnostic lands. A plain read of what is working, what has been outgrown and what is worth keeping, so strategy starts from facts.
  5. Month 1Strategy agreed. Positioning, audience and the one idea the brand is built on.
  6. Month 2Identity built from the strategy: marks, type, colour, imagery and voice.
  7. Month 3Handover and launch. The guideline is delivered. This is where most studios send the final invoice and leave.
  8. Run
  9. Month 6First campaigns on the new identity, run by the people who wrote the positioning.
  10. 1 YearThe brand still looks like itself. Nobody had to re-brief anybody.
  11. 2 YearsThe business changes shape. New venue, new product, new audience. The brand moves with it, on purpose.

Field notes

Every brand lives somewhere

A city street, a valley, a stretch of coast. We go and sit in that place first, then build something that belongs there instead of tearing through it. Some of our work stretches as far as Europe, the UAE and the USA, and we are building partnerships in each.

Overberg

Where we built The Bot River Collection, and where we keep going back.

Newlands

Same brand, different city, different street, different crowd.

Illovo, Johannesburg

Where Fishmonger started, and where the work first had to earn its keep.

Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal

Warm water, long weekends and a very different idea of a good evening.

Cederberg

Sandstone, cold nights and no signal for two days. Where most of our positioning gets written.

Tankwa Karoo

Nothing for a hundred kilometres. The best place we know to strip an idea back to what matters.

West Coast

Cold Atlantic, salt, early starts. Good for the long view.

Europe

Europe

Some of the work we do reaches this far. We are building partnerships on the ground.

UAE

The same brands, a very different market. Partners in the region are in the works.

USA

Work that crosses the Atlantic, and partners we are lining up on that side.

Column

How the work gets made

We use AI, and we'd rather say so plainly. It drafts, iterates and produces at a speed no studio matches by hand. People decide. Nothing leaves here until Quinton or Jacques has directed it, refined it and signed it off, and every deliverable tells you in writing what was AI-assisted and who approved it.

Delivery note

Example. Every deliverable ships with one.
